Ships Cruise Donations

Following the cocktail party organised for on board Masonic Brethren on Fred Olsens cruise ship ‘Braemar’, the Captain and staff were delighted to receive the sum of almost £190 which was shared equally between the RNLI and the Handstand appeal, which is in aid of little Marshal Janson, who lost all of his limbs following an attack of Meningococcal Meningitis.
On board were the Provincial Grand Master of Cornwall, RW Bro. Peter George and W. Bro. Stuart Douglas of Pendennis Lodge, here seen donating towards the RNLI, and later in more formal attire with Peter Reeves hotel manager, Anthony Borradaile cruise director and Captain Martin Birkeland.
Contributions to the Handstand appeal from Cornwall’s Freemasons have been many and varied, and include donations from private Lodges such as St. Gluvias, Penhellaz and Granville, as well as the sum of £25 from the Cornwall Masonic Benevolent Fund.

AID TO AIR AMBULANCE

At a recent visit to the new Air Ambulance base At St. Mawgan, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, VW Bro. Michael Hart, accompanied by the Provincial Grand Charity Steward, W. Bro. Tony Evans, were invited to view some of the new equipment now available to the paramedics which has been provided by the generous donation made last year by the Grand Charity.

Amongst the items seen was an Intra-Osseous drill, used in extreme cases where the paramedic or Doctor is unable to find a vein or artery, and the drill is used to go through the bone and into the marrow, thus enabling the appropriate medication to be injected to the patient. Although sounding rather gruesome, this is a new invention and is considered to be a most essential and possible life saving piece of equipment.
The Grand Charity made grants of £180,000 to 18 Air Ambulance charities throughout England and Wales in 2008, the figures for 2009 will hopefully be available shortly.

In June 2010 Keith Saunders and Peter Clarke a pair of strolling bones will each set off from Villamoura on the Portugese Algarve on three wheeled vintage vehicles, these vehicles were the earliest of farmer’s motorised transport, replacing donkey’s and mule’s.
Our journey will take us up through the hinterland of Portugal through Spain and into and across France then taking the ferry to England to cross the southern counties to our destination.
Our journey is expected to take approximately three weeks as the engine capacity is a mere 50cc therefore we can only travel on non motorway routes.
We will be carrying tents and provisions so as to be as self sufficient as possible, purchasing blister remedies and bone aching remedies en’route.
Our aim is to raise funds for the Children’s Hospice South West to help them extend their support to terminally ill children and their families.
Of course our greatest wish would be that no family would ever need the help of these hospices but sadly some of us some day will.
This is why we are asking for your help, whatever you can give to our cause however little we and the hospice will be eternally grateful.
Please note, All monies raised will go to the hospice as all costs are funded by ourselves,

Therefore could you please make any donations , payable to Children’s Hospice Southwest.

Any donations for this tremendous effort can be made payable to Children’s Hospice Southwest and sent to Louise Turner, Community Fundraiser, Charlton Farm, Charlton Drive, Wrexall, Bristol, BS48 1PE.

Yours faithfully

Keith Saunders

Grand Charity Donation To Aid Cornwall’s Hospices

Cornwall Hospice Care received a welcome donation for the sum of £3,458 from the Grand Charity.
Presenting the cheque together with W. Bro. Tony Evans, Provincial Grand Charity Steward, VW Bro. Michael Hart, Deputy Provincial Grand Master said “It is rewarding for all Freemasons in Cornwall to know that our Masonic Grand Charity has given good support to the county’s two adult hospices over many years, and we trust that we will be in a position to continue doing so in the future”.

Receiving the cheque together with members of the medical team at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice, Mr. Paul Brinsley, the Hospice Care’s Chief Executive said, “We are very grateful to the Freemasons’ Grand Charity for its continued support. Donations like this which help towards our everyday running costs are essential to enable us to continue providing specialist medical care for people in Cornwall”.

We are delighted to announce that the President of The Freemasons’ Grand Charity has granted an emergency fund of £10,000 to the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cumberland and Westmorland, in response to their flood relief appeal.

Freemasons in Cornwall are actively involved in Masonic and Non-Masonic donations in a number of ways. In addition to their commitment to help their fellow masons and dependants there is a strong responsibility to support Charities and fundraising appeals locally, nationally and internationally.
The Cornwall Masonic Benevolent Fund, which is supported entirely by the Freemasons of Cornwall, makes Non-Masonic donations each year, and in 2007 gave over £6,000 to National and Local Charities to be expended within Cornwall.

THE PROVINCE OF CORNWALL OWN LODGES

Lodges too are encouraged to support their local communities and charities that have a special significance to them.
